Greenhouse Gas Abatement Scheme
The Greenhouse Gas Abatement Scheme (GGAS) commenced on 1 January 2003. It is one of the first mandatory greenhouse gas emissions trading schemes in the world. GGAS aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions associated with the production and use of electricity. It achieves this by using project-based activities to offset the production of greenhouse gas emissions - for instance, efficiency upgrades in the commercial and industrial sectors.
Organisations implementing efficiency upgrades in NSW or the ACT may be eligible to create Greenhouse gas Abatement Certificates (NGACs) which have a trading price between $10 to $15 per tonne of emission reductions.
Demand Manager has developed a range of tools to make it simpler and more economical to create NGACs for small-scale Demand Side Abatement activity such as commercial lighting upgrades. Demand Manager can also assist with larger, one-off NGAC projects.
